Healthy Homes compliance, all in one place with PropertyMe

Healthy Homes compliance, all in one place with PropertyMe
Back to blog

Under the Healthy Homes Standards law, all rental properties in New Zealand were required to comply by 1 July 2024. Today, keeping compliance records up to date remains an important part of property management for New Zealand Property Managers.

But this doesn’t need to mean hours spent on endless admin. With Healthy Homes in PropertyMe’s Manage PM, you can keep compliance records organised, track assessments and generate the documents you need without juggling spreadsheets or manually pulling reports together.

Keep compliance on track with dedicated tasks

Stay on top of Healthy Homes assessments with a dedicated task type in Manage PM. Each task can be assigned, given a due date and tracked in PropertyMe, making it easier to manage upcoming assessments and keep compliance work moving.

Every task includes a purpose-built report covering the five Healthy Homes standards:

  • Heating
  • Insulation
  • Ventilation
  • Moisture and drainage
  • Draught-stopping

The report covers the information required under New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Tenancy Services guidelines, so your team can record the details in one place.

The report saves each field automatically, so there’s no need to start again if you get interrupted. You can work through it in stages while waiting for compliance reports from assessors.

If you have properties that already meet the standards, you can bulk create Healthy Homes tasks for all your active properties at once. Then, add the existing compliance information to each report as you work through your portfolio.

Access compliance records and assessment history

Once a Healthy Homes task is complete, the property’s latest compliance date and status appear on its property record. This gives your team a quick way to see the latest compliance information for each property.

PropertyMe also keeps previous assessments in the Healthy Homes tab under Property Activity. You can open an earlier report whenever you need to check what was recorded at the time.

If a property’s compliance details change, create a new Healthy Homes task and copy the details from the previous report. This lets you update the information without losing the record of the earlier assessment.

Generate three Healthy Homes reports in a few clicks

Preparing compliance documents no longer needs to involve hours manually transferring information between forms. Once you’ve completed a Healthy Homes report in PropertyMe, you can generate three PDFs with a single click.

  • Healthy Homes Certificate: Shows the property’s overall compliance status, giving owners and tenants a summary of the results recorded in PropertyMe.
  • Healthy Homes Report: A pre-filled copy of the standard Tenancy Services form, reducing the need to enter the same information twice.
  • Healthy Homes Details and Evidence: A detailed record of the property’s compliance information, including any attached evidence, compiled into one document.

All three PDFs are saved against the property record. When an owner or tenant needs a copy, you can publish the relevant document through Client Access using the quick-action toggle.
